With the growth of MP3 format, it is becoming increasingly convenient to carry hours of music everywhere you go.
The rules of music distribution have completely changed with the emergence of MP3 format and MP3 players. MPEG stands for Moving Picture Experts Group. The compression system developed by this group is used in all DVD movies, HDTV broadcasts and DSS satellite systems to fit video and movie data into smaller spaces. The MPEG compression system also includes a subsystem to compress sound, called MPEG Audio
Layer-3 or as we commonly know it by its abbreviation, MP3. Therefore MP3 format is a compression system for music. It helps to reduce the number of bytes in a song, without compromising quality of the sound.
MP3 format compresses CD-quality song by a factor of 10 to 14, without losing the its quality. A 32-megabyte (MB) sound file on a CD compresses down to about 3 MB on MP3. This allows you to download a sound file or a song in minutes rather than hours, depending on your connection ofcourse, and you can store hundreds of songs on an MP3 player using a relatively small amount of memory.
