The type and texture of the inkjet paper determines the quality of your printed photos. If you print on good quality paper, it will last for many years, probably 40 or even 50, without fading out. Inkjet paper is a particular fine paper specially produced for inkjet printers. It is usually categorized by its weight, brightness and smoothness, and also at times by its opacity.
Inkjet paper weight refers to its thickness. Usually 20 to 24 lbs paper is used regularly but almost 62 lbs paper is used for printing photos. The paper’s brightness is known as its whiteness. Usually it ranges from 1 to about 100. Higher the brightness of paper, sharper, brighter and more vivid the quality of photos be. For better photo printing, get paper of almost 95 brightness rating because all the manufacturers stamp the papers with “Bright”. But you must check how bright it is going to be for you.
You can get inkjet papers in three finishes including glossy, semi-gloss and matte. Glossy is good paper for photo printing and will give your photos the look of traditional photos. Semi-gloss paper has slightly bumpy surface and less shine as compared to glossy paper. Matte paper has no shine and has dull surface. Often, it is used when printing photos to use under glass.
