Expert review of the Epson Expression XP-710 printer
The multifunction Epson Expression XP-710 is a moderately-specified printer that provides some over-and-above features, but maintains a focus on printing. It provides scanning capabilities, but does without some of the most high-end functions. Running costs are incredibly low due to the availability of compatible (third-party replacement) cartridges - see above. High-capacity Epson-original cartridges are not available, which means costs remain higher if you'd rather use Epson products. Maximum print resolution is 5760 x 1400 dpi, while mono print speed is 13ppm and colour print speed is 10ppm.
Design & Features
The Epson Expression XP-710 is a relatively stylish printer, despite incorporating scanning bay, which might be an important consideration when it's going to sit on your desk for the next few years. A touch-screen display adds an element of interest and, more importantly, replaces fiddly setup menus of old with more logical ones. The screen usefully displays photos transferred directly to the printer. As for paper handling, the Epson Expression XP-710 features a 100-sheet paper tray. This A4 printer comes as standard with a scanner, an integrated touch screen, wifi, a memory card reader, a copier, a PictBridge connection and .
Printer sharing is increasingly important and the Epson Expression XP-710 features wifi so it can be shared across computers, even if a wired network connection is not readily available. With high-end printing and ink technologies, it's a photographer's dream.
We Don't Like
At 8 years old, the Epson Expression XP-710 is getting a bit long in the tooth. Running costs aren't as low as they could be as no high-capacity cartridges are available.
